The skin is the body's biggest organ and a key player in elimination- a major way of literally shedding off toxins. The skin receives one-third of the blood circulating in the body and should be responsible for eliminating one-third of the waste through sweat and perspiration. For those who cannot sweat a sufficient amount every day, it is important to aid your body's elimination processes in other ways. And those who can sweat every day, dry brushing is a great health supplement to include in your daily routine.
Dry brushing is an excellent, easy, holistic protocol to incorporate into your daily life to keep your skin soft, smooth, and healthy. It is amazing for elimination, but also for lymphatic drainage. It exfoliates dead skin, clears clogged pores, softens hard fat deposits below the skin (cellulite), and prevents it from coming back. It stimulates sweat and oil glands, stimulates connective tissue and collagen, improves circulation in the skin, tones and relaxes the muscles, and stimulates nerve endings.
When dry brushing, keep it that way- dry. Water is a lubricant, and the beneficial effects of friction will be lost. Always be sure to use a brush with natural bristles. Nylon tears the skin and disturbs the electromagnetic balance, not to mention the microplastics that imbed into the skin tissue. Start in small circles, brushing all over your bare skin. Begin at the soles and tops of the feet and work towards the heart to stimulate venous circulation. Use gentle pressure until you get used to the sensation, then increase the pressure as tolerated. Aid your lymphatic flow by beginning in the lymph nodes for each area and working from the outer extremities toward those lymph nodes. Do not brush the face or any tender, compromised, or inflamed areas. Perform once a day for best results. For added benefits, follow dry brushing with this hydrotherapy technique: take a shower and alternate hot then cold water. It further stimulates circulation however, a regular shower will still be beneficial. Follow up with our Soft 'n Supple Body Scrub and Body Lotion. Happy dry brushing!
This brush is from our friends at Earth Ahead.
The agave body brush is a plant-based, multi-purpose brush that can be used as a:
1. Dry brush - used on dry skin for exfoliation and body massage, which can help increase blood circulation and move toxins out of the body naturally
2. Foot brush - to remove stubborn dirt and rough skin on the heels
3. Nail brush - to eliminate dirt and germs around and under the nails
4. Bath brush - for deep skin cleaning used with soap or a shower gel
This eco-friendly brush is made with simple, all natural materials: bamboo, sisal and cotton. Please note: this is a vegan, plant-based brush made with sisal bristles which are coarse and are not as soft as bristles made from animal hair. They won't get a lot softer overtime, but it depends on how one uses the brush. Some enjoy using it wet to exfoliate in the shower. That is why we like to call it a body brush rather than a dry brush - there are so many ways to use it.
